KING BLACK ACID

The Best Band in the Whole Wide World!!

I'm 39 now and have heard a lot of music but nothing comes close to the genius that is King Black Acid. Have you ever bought an album just for one song? I have. Actually, I've bought several albums just because I loved one song, only to find the rest of the album is crap. I own every King Black Acid album and there isn't one song that I don't like; I'm in love with it all.

It was New Year's Eve, Jimi and I were at the Crystal Ball Room in Portland, Oregon to see a band called Floater. We were downstairs so Jimi could have a beer before Floater came on. So, we are just hanging out when the opening band caught my attention. Yup, all the way down stairs I caught this amazing sound. I tried to focus on the conversation, but seriously, I couldn't. This music just kept going and going and yeah, calling to me. Well, that was it - I told Jimi to chug that beer 'cause I needed to get upstairs to hear the band! We stood at the back of the crowd and I was in total awe. This amazing twisty-floaty-rockin sound was blasting at me and I just soaked it up with every fiber. Man, it was good for me... so I had a cigarette. So, who in the world was that band? Well, lucky for me there was a sweet young lady selling cd's. "King Black Acid - Loves a Long Song"; well, so does Ahna so I'll take it. Next day I played the cd in the walk-man. "What's with all the baa-baa-baa-baa-baa-back?" lyrics, I thought to myself. And then it hit me, the most amazing, breath taking, jaw dropping guitar solo I've ever heard - I swear on roses! And the next song was just as good as the last. And the voice... this sweet, sexy voice singing lyrics that were so down to Earth about love and emotions was just too perfect. What else could a girl ask for? Um, how about all of their cd's! As soon as I got home, I ordered me up all the albums and a few t-shirts too. By this time we had played the cd about 20 times on the car ride home from Oregon. The best was driving through the tall redwoods along the Oregon/California border, then along the gorgeous coastline listening to this equally gorgeous music. Ok, enough of memory lane. The next few albums were completely different and I'll admit, they didn't grab me as fast as the first one. The songs off of "Sunlit" and ÒWomb Star SessonÓ were longer than the ones on "Loves a Long Song". And I thought "Loves a Long Song" was trippy, oh hell no! These albums are way twisty; they bring you up then gently bring you down, mess with your head then tell you it's all okÉ love it! Then came the soundtrack for the movie "The Mothman Prophecies". Well, that album just knocked me on my ass with it's lyrics, it's all so true and everyone can relate. Serious, for about a year that was the soundtrack to my life!! Daniel sings, "I went to hell and killed the devil, why do you think I've lost my mind? All I want is to believe in love, is there no hope for man kind?" Complex - no; profound - yes.

What type of music genre does King Black Acid fit into? My vote is that a new genre be named after the leader of KBA, Sir Daniel Riddle. Seriously, call it "Riddle Music" cause that's exactly what it is, a fricken riddle: rock, trance, indie, trippy, pretty and on and on and on. Ok, I'm just about done declaring my love. I have a few favorite bands; Pixies, Love and Rockets, Felt and so on; but none of these bands have touched my life the way King Black Acid has, and for that I say, "KBA is the best band in the whole wide world".

Well, what are you waiting for? Go buy their music!!
